Marco Zanini just gets me. A pea-green duffle coat paired with awkwardly mid-ankle booties, stringy blonde hair and bright blue eyeshadow makes for a look I couldn't have dreamed up better myself. Quirk is my game and Rochas is the name. While we loved many of the Pre-Fall collections, Rochas did it best. Not because Zanini showed a slightly more tamed down version of the spring collection (as many designers do) but because he presented peices that were completely NEW. As Lucy so aptly put it, "I hope this is where fashion is going." ME TOO!
The clothes are luxe and sophisticated but off-kilter. While a textured jacquard sweatshirt/sack is nothing I have seen before there is something old-world about the collection as it was presented. The model in these clothes could be the subject of a Dutch masterpiece- the color palette is pretty dead on too. The textured concrete walls behind her reminded me of the dusty wood interior from Van Eyck's Arnolfini Wedding Portrait. Of course she's much tougher than the blushing-pregnant-bride with her black beanie... so perhaps she's got a dragon tattoo hidden beneath that powder pink getup. It's a bit of a stretch but you can play along.
