Tie dye is one of those things too often associated with birkenstocks and hemp necklaces, like Phish, Marijuana and basically everything else that comes from Vermont. But thanks to Isabel Marant's SS12 collection, tie dye is making a stylish comeback (it is after all a traditional fabric treatment) and much of it has been put on my body in the last month or so... The three piece tie-dye suit situation (see picture for the vest/skirt combo) must have opened the flood gates because now I've welcomed tie dye jeans, T-shirts, and even a tie-dyed bikini into my closet. How did this happen!? Obviously I'm a huge Marant fan- she makes seemingly casual clothes with the most luxe and labor intensive techniques. She's a trend-setter and even though I know that in a few months just about every fast fashion retailer will have completely copied her collection and lame-os everywhere will be wearing it (ugh)-I don't care! Right now I love tie-dye!
Side-note: the best thing about tie dye is that you can do it yourself and it's such fun craft activity. If I have any time, I'll be helping Hester tie dye her boring white bed sheets, for her summer room make-over. It will be a little Venice hangout in her NYC apartment.
